What Is AuDHD Art? Stim Art, Special Interests and Candy Decay

AuDHD is the shorthand a lot of people now use for being autistic and ADHD at the same time, rather than picking whichever label fits slightly better. I am AuDHD myself, and Candy Decay is what happens when both halves of that get to run the show at once instead of fighting each other.

Stim art

Stim art usually means art made from, or for, visual stimming, the saturated, repeating patterns that help regulate an overstimulated or understimulated nervous system. I wrote a full piece on that specific idea in Stimming With Color, and it is very much where a lot of my color choices come from.

Special interest art

Special interest art is art built around a subject someone is deeply, specifically fascinated by, not a passing preference but a genuine, sustained focus. Pigeons are mine. They show up again and again across Candy Decay, not because I ran out of ideas, but because a recurring character is closer to how a special interest actually works than a fresh subject every time.

Putting the words together

AuDHD art, stim art and special interest art are really three angles on one thing, art shaped directly by a neurodivergent brain instead of just referencing it from the outside.
