Anniversary Gifts for Couples Who Are Not Sentimental About It
Claudia SchmidtShare
Anniversary gifts have a script. A framed date, something engraved, a photo book nobody opens twice. It works for some couples and makes others feel like they are being filed.
The alternative is buying something for the wall they both look at, which is the closest thing to a shared object most couples own.
Art for a shared wall
Inside the Candy Decay Apartment is a room full of the small evidence of a life: plants, controllers, half-finished things, a pigeon on the bed. Living with someone is mostly the accumulation of that, so it works better as an anniversary piece than anything with a heart on it.
The love ones that are not soppy
Cheesy Romance is two pigeons on an absurdly sincere date. Indulgence and Decay is about appetite and the fact that nothing lasts, with a champagne glass and a skull in the same square.
Both are unmistakably about love and neither will embarrass anyone in front of guests.
For a wedding
An original painting between 320 and 520 euro is a real wedding present, especially from a group of people splitting the cost. There is exactly one of each, which is a better metaphor than most wedding gifts manage.
For a first anniversary on a budget
Traditionally paper. Conveniently, a hand-signed 21 x 21 cm print at 35 euro is paper, and so is a 9,90 euro printable.
For long distance
Six months of the Collector's Club at 47,40 euro means something in the letterbox every month rather than one delivery on one date.
